Keep a neighbourhood notebook

A simple way to remember the places you want to return to.

The best reason to keep a city notebook is practical: you will forget the name of the place you noticed on the way somewhere else. A note and a source link can turn a passing impression into a future visit.

Write what caught your attention

Be specific. Was it a building detail, a notice for a public program or a shop you wanted to browse? Record the location and what you would like to learn. A photograph can help, provided you respect people’s privacy and the rules of the place.

Separate a lead from a recommendation

“Looks interesting” is different from “I visited and enjoyed it.” Keep that distinction in your notes and when sharing with friends. Do the same with practical details: a sign photographed months ago is not a current opening-hours check.

Return with a better question

Look for the organisation’s own website, an archive or an official local source before deciding what a place means. If you share a story, explain where the information came from and which parts remain uncertain.

Your notebook does not have to become a guide for anyone else. A handful of places that mean something to you is a perfectly good collection.
