City life
One useful starting point: your Ottawa library card
Look beyond the bookshelf before adding another subscription.
A library card is easy to think of as a way to borrow a book. It can also be a starting point for finding digital resources, learning opportunities and things to do. Before paying for another service, see what your library already offers.
Check which membership applies
Ottawa Public Library lists several membership categories, including residents, visitors and people outside the city. Eligibility and fees vary. Use the current membership page rather than assuming that every category is free.
Find one thing you would actually use
The library lists ebooks, audiobooks, online learning and other resources alongside physical collections. Start with one category that fits your routine. Check borrowing limits, availability and device requirements for the particular service before planning around it.
Look at the calendar, then the details
Program listings can include registration requirements and availability. Save the individual event page and check it again before leaving home. A recurring program name does not guarantee the same time, location or open spaces every week.
This guide is a starting point, not a complete list of benefits. Library services and membership rules can change; the official pages linked below carry the current details.
